Perhaps giving the green light to a game show based off of Squid Game wasn’t Netflix’s best decision.
Currently underway in the UK is the filming of Squid Game: The Challenge. The game show is based off of the extremely successful Netflix series Squid Game starring Lee Jung Jae, Jung HoYeon, Park Hae Soo (whihch has been renewed for second season) and they are not leaving any details out, in fact they are making it tougher than it already is.
The game show will start of with 456 contestants (same as the Netflix Show) and they will be subjected to different games, at different levels. The final victor will walk away with $4.56Million.
While they aren’t allowed to replicate the show to an exact T aka killing off the contestants, they come in pretty close. The producers of the show have been seeing a rising number of calls to 999 NHS due to the harrowing conditions on set.
Turns out while filming the very first game “Red Light, Green Light” contestants had to sand still in the freezing cold snap the UK is currently experiencing at -3 degrees which has been shocking to their systems and many contestants have been carried out in stretchers.
British tabloid The Sun, which first reported the news, spoke to players who had been eliminated from the show. “Some people couldn’t move their feet because it was so cold,” the source told The Sun. “You could hear someone yell ‘medic’ and the crew would rush on. We ended up standing there for 30 minutes between takes.”
In a statement shared with Variety, a spokesperson for Netflix said: “We care deeply about the health and safety of our cast and crew, and invested in all the appropriate safety procedures. While it was very cold on set — and participants were prepared for that — any claims of serious injury are untrue.”
