AT LEAST FOR NOW, I GOTTA GO MY OWN WAY

Austin Butler has been seeing a landslide of applause for his performance as the King of Rock n’ Roll in the biopic Elvis which came out last year but before that Austin wasn’t exactly a household name having only been in minor productions like Ruby & the Rockits, The Shannara Chronicles, and even playing main roles in big productions i.e Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, Arrow, The Carrie Diaries didn’t exactly hit home.
The one thing he was known for was being Vanessa Hudgen’s handsome dotting boyfriend. The pair dated for 9 years before their untimely spilt right before the premier of Elvis, but even after all this time Austin keeps Vanessa in his good books and one reason might be that, she’s the reason for his big break.
In a recent interview Austin opened up about Vanessa’s part in him getting the role saying “We’d been together for so long and she had this sort of clairvoyant moment and so I really, I owe her a lot for believing in me”

Previously in an interview Austin spoke about how a ‘friend’ pushed him to go get the role “People always ask me, ‘Had you for years thought you looked like Elvis?’ And I’d say, ‘I don’t really think I look that much like Elvis.’ That never crossed my mind,” he said at the time. “But the month before I heard that Baz [Luhrmann] was making the movie, I was going to look at Christmas lights with a friend, and there was an Elvis Christmas song on the radio, and I was singing along, and my friend looked over at me and goes, ‘You’ve got to play Elvis.’ I said, ‘Oh, that’s such a long shot.”

Austin continued, “A couple of weeks later, I was playing the piano. I never really sang for any of my friends or anything. That same friend was there and I was playing the piano. She said, ‘I’m serious. You gotta figure out how you can get the rights to a script.’”

And now he confesses that the friend was his then girlfriend Venessa Hudgens.
