Once called “unfilmable” The Sandman is set to come to the small screen all thanks to Netflix and their movie magic!
Based on the DC Comic of the same name, The Sandman is one of the rare productions under the DC franchise that isn’t getting chopped due to budget cuts! (Batgirl can’t say the same thing) Instead the movie is being picked up by Netflix even though The Sandman once experienced a fail production.
First published by DC Comics in 1989, The Sandman is widely considered as one of the smartest, most challenging and imaginative comic books ever made. It follows Morpheus, the lord of dreams, as he tries to rebuild his kingdom after being imprisoned by humans for nearly 100 years. Largely split between the waking world and the realm of the Dreaming, the comics are told with an unflinching sense of maturity, depth and ambition.
The Sandman is one of the works of Neil Gaiman (Coroline, American Gods) that he’s most proud of, in an interview he said "I feel like Sandman is my legacy," and now after all these years (33 years to be exact) he finally gets to see life breathed into his characters as they are brought onto the small screen through the acting of Tom Sturridge, Gwendoline Christie, Taron Egerton, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Kat Denningsand many other talented Hollywood A-Listers.
And it doesn’t hurt that Dream looks like the Goth prince of all our teenage dreams!
