JUSTIN BIEBER, DAN+SHAY SUED OVER ALLEGEDLY COPYING SONG FOR '10,000 HOURS'!
Justin Bieber and Dan + Shay could be sued for copyright infringement in the near future. International Manufacturing Concepts, Melomega Music, and Sound Gems, among others, sued the pop singer and the country pair over their song "10,000 Hours," according to documents obtained by E! News.
The lawsuit says that Bieber, Dan Smyers, and Shay Mooney "stole the core portion" (chorus, verse, and hook) from Palmer Rakes and Frank Fioravanti's 1973 song "The First Time Baby Is A Holiday." Despite the fact that the song was released in 2014, over five years after "10,000 Hours," the plaintiffs claim "unmistakable similarities."
Their complaint reads, "Defendants' theft is impudently audacious." "A simple listen to 'First Time' and the infringing '10,000 Hours' reveals the tracks' undeniable similarities." Melomega also filed a complaint with a report from musicologist Dr. Alexander Stewart. Stewart looked at both songs and came to the "unanimous and ineluctable finding that Defendants copied Plaintiff's song."
"'10,000 Hours' isn't only a lot like 'First Time,'" the complaint went on to say. "The most crucial, core element of plaintiff's song, which contains the chorus, verse, and hook, was reproduced in minute detail by defendants. The similarities are so remarkable that '10,000 Hours' could not possibly have been created independently."
