ASAP Rocky, a New York rapper, was detained in Los Angeles on Wednesday on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon arising from an alleged nonfatal shooting last year, according to police.

The artist, whose true name is Rakim Mayers, 33, had just arrived in Los Angeles with his pregnant girlfriend, pop singer and fashion mogul Rihanna, after a private aircraft from Barbados. Celebrity media and paparazzi had covered the trip intensively. The incident happened around 10:15 p.m. on Nov. 6, 2021, in the Hollywood area, during a dispute "between two acquaintances," according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department. "The disagreement escalated, and the suspect fired a revolver at the victim," according to the report. The victim was later treated for a minor injury.Rocky and two other men then escaped on foot, according to investigators.

The Los Angeles Police Department declined to provide any additional information. A request for response from the rapper's representatives was not immediately returned.
