Jason Momoa will appear in another major role on Apple TV+. Chief of War, a historical drama series set in Hawaii, will star Momoa. Momoa and Thomas Pa'a Sibbett, who co-wrote Momoa's 2018 action film Braven, are also co-writing the script.
According to Variety, Chief of War will tell the tale of Hawaii's unification and colonialism from an indigenous perspective. An executive producer is Francis Lawrence, who directed the previous three Hunger Games films as well as episodes of Momoa's Apple TV+ series See. The showrunner and executive producer will be Doug Jung (Mindhunter, Banshee). The first two episodes will be directed by Justin Chon. Executive producers are Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Erik Holmberg, with Endeavor Content and Chernin Entertainment serving as the project's studios.
Momoa is already a familiar face to Apple TV+ customers as the lead of See, a post-apocalyptic thriller set in a world where most people have lost their eyesight. Season 1 was launched in 2019, while Season 2 was released last year. A third season is now in the works. See was designed by Steven Knight.Momoa has a few writing credits on his career, while being best recognized for his work in front of the camera. He directed, co-wrote, and featured in the 2014 film Road to Paloma, in which he played a Native American on the run after killing his mother. The forthcoming Western The Last Manhunt, which features Momoa in a brief role, was co-written by Momoa and Sibbett.
