TROY KOTSUR MAKES HISTORY WITH BEST ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE WIN AT 2022 OSCARS!
With his win at the 94th Academy Awards on Sunday, Troy Kotsur created history.He won the Oscar for best supporting actor for his role in "CODA," making him the first deaf person to win an Academy Award for acting.
Kotsur earlier made history by becoming the first deaf man and the second deaf actor to be nominated for an Academy Award for acting.
In 1987, his "CODA" co-star Marlee Matlin became the first deaf artist to be nominated for and win an Academy Award for her portrayal in "Children of a Lesser God," winning the Oscar for best actress. Kotsur said during his winning speech, "It's incredible to be a part of this adventure. I can't believe I've arrived. Thank you so much to all of the Academy members who have recognized my effort."He went on to say, "I want to thank all of the amazing deaf theater venues where I was allowed and given the opportunity to practice my profession as an actor."
