CHRISTINA RICCI JOINS NETFLIX'S 'ADDAMS FAMILY' SHOW ABOUT WEDNESDAY!
Wednesday, 23 March 2022
It's been over a year and a half since we broke the news that Tim Burton, the filmmaker of Beetlejuice, Corpse Bride, and 1989 Batman, is working on a new TV adaptation of Charles Addams' comic strip kooks The Addams Family for Netflix. Casting announcements and hints about the premise of the show – named Wednesday – have only added to the excitement around our first live-action Addams film since Barry Sonnenfeld's legendary 1990s duology. The recent news, which every fan of those two cult movies has been waiting for, has pushed our anticipation for the series to new heights.
Everyone, Christina Ricci is back! Ricci has joined the cast of Burton's next series, filling the void left in the show by Thora Birch's departure from the project mid-shoot due to personal circumstances, according to Deadline. Ricci recently lit up our screens in the dazzling Yellowjackets.
Ricci won't be reprising her role as original 90s Goth girl Wednesday Addams — that honor goes to Scream queen Jenna Ortega – but she won't be a one-off cameo either. Netflix is understandably trying to keep Ricci's role under wraps for the time being, but we do know that she's been quietly filming in Romania with the rest of the ensemble these past several weeks wiill be a series regular in the coming-of-age comedy, playing an all-new, original character.
