Make a wish, because Selena Gomez is giving the John Hughes classic Sixteen Candles a Latinx twist.The music artist is working on a new half-hour sitcom called 15 Candles with colleagues Tanya Saracho and Gabriela Revilla Lugo, based on the 1984 coming-of-age film starring Molly Ringwald.

The comedy series "will follow four young Latinas in high school as they navigate feelings of invisibility while examining what it means to leave childhood behind as quinceaera season approaches," according to Variety. Saracho and Lugo are scheduled to develop and executive produce the movie, which will be distributed by NBC streamer Peacock. Gomez will serve as executive producer.

 Gomez's adaptation of Sixteen Candles with a Latinx twist is far from her first effort into television production. She executive produced the Netflix adaptation of 13 Reasons Why from 2017 to 2020, and she's presently starring in and executive producing Hulu's Only Murders in the Building opposite Steve Martin and Martin Short. (Gomez was also nominated for a Critics' Choice Award for best actress in a comedy series for her role as Mabel Mora.)
