The epidemic has increased the digital economy around the world, including Africa. Limited internet connectivity, as well as different rules throughout the continent in areas like payment systems and data roaming, remain important roadblocks in Africa's digital transformation.

Smart Africa, a cooperation involving 32 African countries and organizations such as the World Bank and the African Union, is working to change that. The group, which is in charge of developing the continent's digital infrastructure, recently announced a deal with Intel (INTC) to improve its member nations' digital capabilities and understanding of emerging technologies like cloud computing.
