"Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts," touted as a retrospective to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the release of the first Harry Potter film, will premiere on HBO Max on New Year's Day, according to the streaming service. According to HBO Max, director Christopher Columbus, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and other performers from the eight Potter films will join for a journey back to Hogwarts to explore the making of Harry Potter and the franchise's influence. It will be the first time they've collaborated on a project since the final film was released in 2011, according to the streaming service.
Despite the fact that Rowling will appear in the old video, a source close to the production confirmed to NPR that she will not be appearing in the program. They didn't say why Rowling won't be there or whether she was asked to participate but declined.
