HERE'S WHAT YOU MAY HAVE MISSED ON NETFLIX'S MASSIVE ROALD DAHL DEAL!
Netflix's acquisition of the Roald Dahl Story Company appears to offer a path to everything the streaming giant wants to do as it expands beyond its main business. The groundbreaking agreement, revealed last Wednesday, provides Netflix the rights to the renowned author's complete repertoire — as well as a possible path into industries outside than Netflix's main work of programs and films, such as gaming, live events, and merchandising.

The company paid $30 million to $50 million for comics’ creator Mark Millar's MillarWorld in 2017, but with intellectual property like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, James and the Giant Peach, and The BFG, the Dahl company is by far its most high-profile content acquisition.

Netflix has been in the Dahl business for three years, having paid an estimated $1 billion for the rights to 16 of Dahl's stories as animated programs and specials. While no titles have yet been released as a result of the deal, Netflix announced on Wednesday that a series based on the world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory from Taika Waititi and Phil Johnston (Wreck-It Ralph) and a Matilda the Musical adaptation (in partnership with Sony and Working Title) are in the works.
