Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to finance and distribute Christopher Nolan's next feature, which will be based on his script on J. Robert Oppenheimer's role in the development of the atomic bomb. For their Syncopy Inc. label, Nolan and his wife and longtime producing partner Emma Thomas will produce the film.
According to sources, the picture has been given the green light to begin filming in the first quarter of 2022. When the news of this picture being shopped broke a few days ago, it was reported that Nolan's longtime partner Cillian Murphy was in the running for a key role. This is still a possibility, but there are no concrete casting attachments at this time.
So concludes a lengthy and fruitful collaboration between Nolan and Warner Bros. that included The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Dunkirk, and, most recently, Tenet.
