After Simone Biles withdrew from the Olympics with concerns for her mental health, it was unsure whether she would be able to take part in her other events. However, the gymnast made a comeback and took part in the Women’s Balance Beam event. She even surprised herself by winning the bronze medal, with a score of 14.000. Biles was not able to perform twists in her routine, and therefore took out the twist and replaced it with a simple double pike.

Biles explained that she did it for herself, that she wanted one final chance to have a moment of joy, after the week she had of daily medical evaluations, where sports psychologists tried to figure out why her brain and her body were not cooperating. However, in her final event, she performed spectacularly and made everyone proud.
