The United Arab Emirates has been experiencing severe heat the past few days, and to battle it, they created artificial rain. That's right. They created artificial rain.
This was done using a method called cloud seeding, where they charge the clouds with electricity, making the particles vibrate, which eventually causes them to fall down as rain.
The process was explained by scientist Kondala Murali Mohan, who says that "cloud seeding is a process to create artificial rain. Here, chemicals like silver iodide, potassium iodide, and dry ice are sent to the atmosphere through helicopters or planes. These particles attract the water vapor in the air, leading to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds and finally rain." He also explained that it generally takes half an hour to produce rain using this method, but the time is taken usually dependent on which part of the cloud is injected with the chemicals.
