Simone Biles announced that she will not be competing in the women’s gymnastics individual all-around final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics! The news was announced on Tuesday, 27th July. Biles withdrew from the team earlier on the 27th, after a misstep on her first vault routine of the day. She is the reigning gold-medal winner in the individual all-round. 

The statement from USA Gymnastics explained that “Simone Biles has withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games, to focus on her mental health.” The statement continued, stating that Biles will “continue to be evaluated daily to determine whether or not to participate in next week’s individual event finals.”
