Comic book fans enthusiasts have craved crossovers between heroes and villains since the beginning of the humongous MCU franchise. The idea itself is one that fans have been used to given how often it happened in the form of graphic novels. Once the friendly “Merc-with-a-Mouth" was introduced to the box office, fans knew it was not too long before crossovers are made possible. Deadpool was always a character who was free of the writers' pen. He can break the fourth wall and is even aware of his predicament and surroundings, in the comics.
Ryan Reynolds, who acts as Deadpool, recently suited up to promote his new movie, Free Guy, alongside his co-star, director, and actor, Taika Waititi. Waititi is firmly rooted in the MCU and in addition to directing films in the franchise, the New Zealand native even had his special character, Korg who became a recurring role following his MCU debut in Thor: The Dark World.
The two characters came together after Reynolds and Waititi decided to carry out a promotional ad for their new project. The promotion was meta in nature and was riddled with hilarious moments. However, the marketing stunt acted as a milestone as well, marking the character of Deadpool transitioning to the addition.
To announce the promotion, Reynolds took to Twitter to share and post about the mini-project. "Two members of the MCYouTube react to the upcoming film #FreeGuy featuring Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi” he stated in the post.
