How many times have you read a headline of an article and then read the actual article and you’re left completely disappointed because it was nothing like what the headline leads you to believe? Well, this is true for a lot of us out there and oftentimes we don’t even read the whole article and go off on just the headline which leads to misinformation being spread.
Now, Facebook is ready to test a brand new pop-up feature that will ask users if they are sure they want to share a specific article, and here’s the catch - if they haven’t read the article before wanting to share it on their news feed!
Facebook shared this through Twitter, a platform that already has implemented this feature when users want to retweet a certain article. Moreover, users can also choose the option to share the article anyway without having to read the article first.
The whole idea behind rolling out this feature is to curb the spread of false information which they have seen a surge of on social media platforms - Facebook specifically, especially in a time where COVID-19 is still prevalent.
The way the company is going to do it is simple, so when a user decides to share an article link to their news feed which they have not opened or read, a prompt will pop up that encourages the user to read the article first and in addition to that, the pop up comes with a warning to the user that says not opening the article will lead to missing key facts and the headline of the article not always telling you the entire story.
Even though this could be very annoying it’s a very important feature that Facebook is putting out there!
