Google storage, for many of us, is the modern-day hard drive. It’s the place where our most cardinal thoughts, documents, and memories live. But just like with a traditional hard drive, the space isn’t infinite, and running out of room can be a real issue. 

By default, Google gives you about 15GB of space to use for everything related with your account. That includes content connected to Gmail, Google Drive, and all Google Photos saved. Too much to say but, data adds up fast.

You can check your current storage status by visiting this page, and if push comes to shove, you can buy more space there, too, for as little as $2 a month for an extra 100GB. But handing over more money might not be obligatory. A quick round of old-fashioned housekeeping could be enough to clear away your virtual cobwebs and give yourself enough room to grow. Here’s how to do it.

Emails don’t take up a lot of space, but you know what does? Attachments. You’ve probably got a myriad of old attachments sitting in your Gmail account that you don’t even really need.

In addition to that, unless you currently have a Pixel phone, every photo and video backed up to Google Photos is going to count against your Google storage.

So go ahead and clear those up to save a lot more space than you’d think!
