TIKTOK BANNED IN PAKISTAN OVER "IMMORAL AND INDECENT" CONTENT

Pakistan's telecommunications regulator on Friday blocked TikTok for failing to filter out "immoral and indecent" content, another blow to social media usage. The Pakistan Telecommunications Commission (PTA) said, "The ban comes in the wake of complaints from various sections of the community against immoral and indecent content in the video-sharing application."
The PTA said it was reviewing its ban subject to TikTok’s satisfactory mechanism to mitigate illegal content. “We are committed to following the law in the markets where the application is offered,” TikTok said.
TikTok, owned by China-based ByteDance, has become very popular in a short period of time by encouraging young users to post short videos. But many countries have raised security and privacy concerns over its relations with China.
In June, it was blocked in India - then its largest market by users - citing national security concerns during a border dispute with China. Separately, it examines the threat posed by the United States and other countries, including Australia.
TikTok has long denied that its contacts with China pose a security concern.
According to a PDA spokesperson, TikTok has registered 20 million monthly active users in Pakistan, while it is the third most downloaded app after WhatsApp and Facebook in the last 12 months, according to analytics firm Sensor Tower.
Three Pakistani officials told Reuters earlier on Friday that the ban on the use was immediate. TikTok was issued with a final warning in July.
