TIKTOK BAN: US JUDGE TO HOLD NOVEMBER 4 HEARING ON GOVERNMENT ACTION

A U.S. judge has said he will hold a hearing on November 4 on whether to allow the U.S. government to block transactions with TikTok, warning that China's short video sharing app could effectively ban its use in the United States. U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols in Washington issued a preliminary injunction on Sept. 27 banning the U.S. Department of Commerce from ordering Apple and Alphabet Inc. Google App Stores to remove dictation for download by new entrepreneurs.
Nichols now has to decide whether to block other aspects of the Commerce Department order, which will take effect on November 12. Nicholas' new trial is scheduled for a day after the presidential election. Negotiations are underway to finalize a preliminary agreement for Walmart and Oracle to acquire a stake in TikTok Global, the new company overseeing US operations. US President Donald Trump said last month that he had his "blessings" on the deal.
The main terms of the agreement, including who will have the majority rights, are in dispute. TikTok owner Byte Dance has said that any deal would require China's approval and that Beijing has revised its list of technologies subject to its export restrictions, which could be said of any TikTok deal.
The Trump administration argues that TikTok raises national security concerns because the personal information collected on the 100 million Americans who use the app could be obtained by the Chinese government.
