TEMPLE OF THE TOOTH

Sri Dalada Maligawa or Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple located in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy and houses the monument to the Tooth Relic.
Since ancient times, the monument has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever owns the monument will hold the administration of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site due to its temple.
The Bhikkhus of the two chapters, Malwatte and Asgiriya, conduct daily worship in the inner room of the temple. Rituals are performed three times a day: at dawn, noon and evening. On Wednesdays, the monument has a bath with an herbal product made from fragrant water and fragrant flowers called Narumura Mangallaya. This holy water is believed to have healing powers and is distributed to those present.
