Microsoft affirms the existence of the Xbox Series S, a comparatively small and cheap version of the next-generation Xbox Series X. The info was first leaked by a Microsoft insider Brad Sams.


Shortly after the leak, Microsoft confirmed the price of the Xbox Series S in a tweet published early Tuesday morning. Microsoft tweeted from the Xbox Twitter account with the tagline “Let’s make it official,” alongside a photo of the console. It said more information on the console is coming “soon.”


The console depicted in Microsoft’s tweet showed a slimmer version than the Xbox Series X, with a big circular fan prominently on the side. There also appears to be no optical disc drive, which aligns with earlier reports.


The Xbox Series S was apparently confirmed back in August by some Xbox controller packaging that was published online. Although it was the best kept of secrets, Microsoft never fully acknowledged the Xbox Series S — until now that is. In the image released by Microsoft, the company states that the Xbox Series S is “next-gen performance in the smallest Xbox ever,” which is what people were expecting: a more inexpensive Xbox console that’s an equivalent to this generation’s Xbox One S.
