The Polonnaruwa Vatadage is associated with ancient structure geological dating back to the dominion of Polonnaruwa of Sri Lanka. It's believed to own been engineered throughout the reign of Parakramabahu I to carry the Relic of the tooth of Gautama Buddha or throughout the reign of Nissanka Malla of Polonnaruwa to carry the almsgiving bowl employed by Gautama Buddha.

Each of these honored relics would have given the structure a good significance and importance at the time. placed inside the traditional town of Polonnaruwa, it's the simplest preserved example of a Vatadage within the country, and has been represented because of the "ultimate development" of this kind of design.

Abandoned for many centuries, excavation work the Polonnaruwa Vatadage began in 1903. engineered for the protection of little stupa, the structure has 2 stone platforms.
