SACRED GROUNDS OF ANURADHAPURA

Anuradhapura is nestled safely in North Central Province of Sri Lanka and is one of south Asia’s moving sights. It is one of the ancient cities in Sri Lanka, well known for its ruins portraying early Sri Lankan civilization.
The ruins comprises of three classes of buildings, dagobas, monastic buildings, pokuna (ponds). The city had some of the most sophisticated irrigation systems of the ancient civilization;located in the dry zone of the country the ruling party at that time built many tanks to irrigate the land. It is very well renowned amongst Buddhists pilgrims. In the past, Anuradhapura was the capital of the Island and most of the
Kings who ruled Sri Lanka resided in this vast city. The city is now named as a world heritage site by UNESCO lies 205 km north of the current capital Colombo in Sri Lanka.
Current-day Anuradhapura is a pleasant although somewhat stretched out city; a small town that gives the impression of being a large village instead. There's plenty of good budget accommodation, easy bike hire, trailswith a relaxing pace, making it a splendid place to spend an extra day.
