RUSSIA DEVELOPS A POTENTIAL CORONAVIRUS VACCINE PRIOR TO CLINICAL TRIALS

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday (11/08/20) his country, Russia, has given the seal of approval for the world's first coronavirus vaccine, giving it the moniker “Sputnik V”. Nevertheless, a few health experts are raising issues with regards to the possible vaccine being approved before clinical trials have been achieved.
"A vaccine against coronavirus has been registered for the first time in the world this morning," Putin said on state television, according to CNN. "I know that it works quite effectively. It forms a stable immunity."
The potential vaccine, which was created at the Gamaleya Institute in Moscow, still needs to undergo phase 3 clinical trials, where a large number of people are tested over an extensive period of time. Putin supposedly waived concerns about the swift approval, stating the vaccine has already been administered to one of his daughters.
Dozens of vaccines to stop COVID-19 are being developed across the globe to fight against the virus, which has infected over 20 million people and killed more than 737,000 around the world. Several experts, including doctors at the World Health Organization, have said the quickest way to bring end pandemic is through the development of a vaccine.
While many are hopeful about the speedy development of a vaccine, health experts have also warned that safety must remain a top priority.
