Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is an associate orphanage, nursery, and captive parcel of land for wild Asian elephants set at Pinnawala village, 13 km (8.1 mi) northeast of Kegalle city in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. Pinnawala has the biggest herd of captive elephants in the world. In 2011, there have been 96 elephants, as well as 43 males and 68 females from three generations, living in Pinnawala.
