Harry Styles, former One Directioner, garners the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time ever with his latest single “Watermelon Sugar”, dethroning his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift, who was on the one on last week’s chart with her song “Cardigan.” That song dropped to number eight in its second week on the chart. Harry Styles is the second member of One Direction to go number one on the Hot 100, following Zayn, who achieved the feat with “Pillowtalk” back in 2016.

Harry‘s previous peak on the chart as a solo artist was with “Sign of the Times,” which reached number four in April 2017. As a member of 1D, he went to number two with “Best Song Ever.” He and Taylor were previously dating back in 2012 and he also recently praised her songwriting skills in a new interview on The Howard Stern Show. “I think about what it means to me to write a song about somebody else and for somebody else to do that, it’s like flattering, even if the song isn’t that flattering, you still spent time on it and ultimately, using Taylor as an example, she’s a great songwriter. So at least they’re good songs.”He further said, “The only time you really think, ’is this song too personal?’ Is if you think about, ‘is this going to be really annoying for the other person?’ Because I do [care].”
