One of film’s most prestigious award ceremonies have been postponed due to the COVID-19 virus. The pandemic has halted many productions and most of which might not continue till early next year.

The event has been moved from February 28^th to April 25^th, and this was done in order to accommodate the early 2021 releases, delayed due to the pandemic.

President of the Academy, David Rubin, and CEO Dawn Hudson, said of their decision: "For over a century, movies have played an important role in comforting, inspiring and entertaining us during the darkest of times.”

The new dates means nominations will be announced on March 15th 2021, with the submission deadline for general entry categories (which includes Best Picture) on January 15th.

This is the first time in 93 years that this has happened and the committee had no choice but to go ahead with this decision as the safety of the attendees and everyone involved is of high priority.
