Playing 'Keta'

The traditional way of Playing 'Keta'

Keta Geseema takes an important place in Traditional Sinhala New Year Games. It is played in houses or a separate place called 'Keta Pola' A cube made of buffalo horn with 6 faces whose faces are marked from 1 to 6 or 3, 6, 9,12,15,18 using dots or small circles, is used for this game. The cube is thrown at an angled board by each one involved in the Game. Then the one who gets the highest mark of the Cube is the winner.

In the event of scoring same highest mark by several persons, they again play the game and the one who gets the highest marks is the winner. Most of the times this game is played for money thus there are instances that the game is placed in lieu of goods. Another specific feature of this game is the ability to make bets to those who are not playing the game by calling the stroke as a high value- one of these 12,15,18 or low value 3,6,9.One person can make any number of bets.
