GOOGLE TO MOVE USERS FROM HANGOUTS TO GOOGLE CHAT EARLY NEXT YEAR
Google has announced the transition from Google Hangouts to Google Chat under the re-branded Google Workplace (formerly G Suite) in the first half of next year. Google Workspace brings Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meeting and now Chat in an integrated, integrated space. Until now, Google Chat was only available to Premium G Suite customers. But it is set up as a free service and a full-fledged application (like Google Hangouts) within Gmail.

The new Google Workspace is now only available to business customers. The company, in a blog post, said it will bring it to others next year. Google Chat retains some Hangout features, such as live and group messaging, and rejects some. Google claims that the new messaging app will have a phishing mechanism similar to Gmail. Links and links sent via Google Chat will be automatically flagged as running and malicious by real-time data from Google Safe Browsing.

Google has also promised that users' Hangouts data, including conversation history and contacts, will automatically migrate to the new Google Chat as soon as it comes live in the first half of 2021. The company did not provide the exact date of the change, or it specified the things users should do to jump.
